AUSTIN, Texas — Ricky Brown, who followed a successful playing career at Texas with time in the NFL before embarking on a career in business, has been tapped to build on engagement and mentoring programs for Letterwinners in his new role as Assistant Athletics Director for the T-Association.

Brown initially returned to Texas in September, 2013 when he joined the Longhorn Foundation as a key leader in the establishment of true philanthropic programs within the group, which resulted in record endowments.

“The T-Association is a fantastic group," Brown said. "The opportunity to help craft programs and relationships that give back to both our letterwinners and the university is incredible for me. My time as a student-athlete at Texas, along with the last few years as part of the Longhorn Foundation, are some of the proudest moments of my life.  I look forward to creating many more of those moments over the coming years with my fellow T-Association members.”

After finishing his playing career and earning an MBA from Southern Methodist University, Brown worked for both JPMorgan and Merrill Lynch in the world of finance. He will bring his unique combination of experience to the T-Association as the group works to strengthen long-term connections, beginning with current student-athletes and continuing throughout their post-Texas lives.

“Ricky is, in many ways, the model for all that our student-athletes are and can be,” Texas Men’s Athletics Director Mike Perrin said. “Both on the field and off, he has proven to be dedicated, passionate and successful. I can’t think of a better individual to guide our relationships with letterwinners, and am proud to have him involved in an integral role for an organization I have been a member of for more than 40 years.”

In addition to strategic planning for the T-Association, Brown will lead activities related to special events including sport reunions, Hall of Honor and national recognition events. Wesley Ellison, who joined the Longhorn Foundation team in August of 2015 from the University of Michigan, will take over Brown’s leadership giving responsibilities.
