Texas Women’s Basketball was overwhelmed by No. 7 Baylor on Sunday afternoon, falling 72-56 at the Erwin Center. The loss, which marked the Longhorn’s first home conference loss of the season, came on the heels of 26 turnovers and only 50% shooting at the free throw line.

“It was a tough day for us. I thought we were uncharacteristically frantic offensively,” Texas head coach Karen Aston said following the loss. “We looked a little bit like we did early in the year… Give credit to Baylor that they force you to hurry and be a little frantic from their defense.”

The Bears won the game in the paint, outscoring Texas 34-26 in the lane. The game was[s2If current_user_can(access_s2member_level2)]  put further out of reach due to the Longhorn’s difficulties with turnovers. The Bears came away with 33 points from turnovers. In their eighth straight loss to the Bears, the Longhorns out rebounded Baylor 42-40.

During the first half of Sunday’s game, the Longhorns kept the score close to start, trading the lead several times before the Bears went on a 12-5 run to put up a nine point lead. The Bears led the Longhorns 30-21 going into the locker room at the end of the first half.

After the intermission, the Longhorns had difficulties scoring, coming away with only one basket in the first ten minutes of the second half. The Longhorns turned that around and ultimately finished the game shooting 10-for13 with nine points from freshman forward Nekia Jones.

“I would describe it as a tough loss,” Junior Nneka Enemkpali said. “It was uncharacteristic of our team to play like we did today. I didn’t feel like we played with enough fight.”

Enempali led the Longhorns on Sunday against the Bears. Enemkpali finished the game with 10 points with nine rebounds. Senior guard Chasidy Fussell was uncharacteristically flat against the Bears, going 0-for-7 from the field with only one point scored in 28 minutes of play.

This was their second contest against the Bears this season. Baylor defeated Texas 87-73 at the beginning February in Waco. The Longhorns face Oklahoma on Wednesday on the road in Norman, Oklahoma. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
