2022 Texas Women’s Tennis NCAA Championships

AUSTIN, Texas — The winning tradition continues for No. 3 Texas Women’s Tennis as they go undefeated in the first two matches of the 2022 NCAA Championships hosted at the Texas Tennis Center over the weekend.

No. 3 Texas Women’s Tennis swept Ball State 4-0 then repeated a 4-0 sweep against No. 18 Michigan on day two of the NCAA Team Championship at the Texas Tennis Center.  Texas will play No. 14 Auburn May 13 (FRI) at 12 p.m. at the Texas Tennis Center before heading into the NCAA Quarterfinals held in Champaign, Illinois May 20.

Against Ball State, No. 2 ranked Peyton Stearns overpowered Mariya Polishchuk 6-1, 5-3 in singles competition. No. 11 ranked doubles pair Peyton Stearns and Allura Zamarripa defeated Amy Kaplan and Hannah Davies 6-4. 

Texas has three nationally ranked tennis players; #2 Peyton Stearns, #49 Kylie Collins, #93 Sabina Zeynalova and two ranked doubles pairs: #11 Peyton Stearns/Allura Zamarripa, #67 Charlotte Chavatipon/Kylie Collins.

Before the tournament started during media availability, we had a chance to speak to head coach Howard Joffe and noticed that he was wearing a special ribbon on his cap and asked him about it.
