The University of Texas slogan has played out in a variety of ways in recent years. Whether it be overseas, in the lab, or even on the football field, lifetime Longhorns are accomplishing great things. As the NFL kicked off its season this past weekend, four former Texas stars made their marks at the highest level of professional football.
Rookie wide receivers Devin Duvernay and Collin Johnson both made their NFL debuts Sunday, Duvernay with the Baltimore Ravens and Johnson with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Each team won its season opener.
Ravens' quarterback Lamar Jackson connected with Duvernay for a 12-yard completion in Baltimore's 38-6 rout of Cleveland, and the former Texas receiver also returned two kicks for a total of 64 yards. Kicker Justin Tucker, who kicked for UT from 2008-11, also contributed to Baltimore's lopsided victory, connecting on his only field goal attempt, from 41 yards out.
In Jacksonville, Johnson tallied his first catch of his pro career, a 14-yard reception.
Malcolm Roach joined the New Orleans defensive line rotation in the Saints' 34-23 win over Tampa Bay. Roach picked up his first two tackles, including a tackle for loss on future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady.
Three former Longhorns helped the Seattle Seahawks secure a a 38-25 win at Atlanta. Quandre Diggs had three tackles and an interception and Poona Ford added a pair of tackles, while Michael Dickinson did his job right, booming four punts for an average of 48 yards per punt.
Lead the Los Angeles Rams to a 20-17 victory over the Dallas Cowboys, running back Malcolm Brown, who led the team in rushing yards with 79 and scored both of his team's touchdowns.
