AUSTIN, Texas — A big win over No. 17 Oklahoma State pushed the Texas men's basketball team into the top 10 of the most recent Associated Press top 25 poll, which was announced Monday. Texas jumped from No. 13 to No. 10, the first top-10 ranking under head coach Shaka Smart.
The jump was the fourth straight this season for the Longhorns, who began the 2020-21 campaign ranked No. 19 in the AP poll.
The Big 12 boasts three teams ranked ahead of the Longhorns: No. 2 Baylor, No. 3 Kansas and No. 8 West Virginia.
Brown named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week
Freshman forward Greg Brown, who soared high in both of Texas' wins over OSU and Sam Houston State, was named the conference's Newcomer of the Week. He averaged 20.5 points, 12 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game in the two games, including new career highs against the Cowboys with 24 points and 14 rebounds.
The 10th-ranked Longhorns will host Texas A&M Corpus-Christi in a non-conference battle at 11 a.m. Tuesday that can be seen on the Longhorn Network. The Big 12 slate resumes Jan. 2 at Kansas.
