TUCSON, Arizona — The Texas women's golf team claimed another place in the program record book when the Longhorns shot a 16-under-par 272 in the opening round of the Mountain View Collegiate at the Omni Tucson National Golf Clap.

Texas broke the school record for a score to par (-16) and tied the program's lowest overall 18-hole score (272).

Freshman Ashley Park led UT's historic round, firing a 6-under 66, the best performance of her collegiate career. Her 66 is the fourth-lowest in the tournament's history, and she led the individual standings after the first day.

Agathe Laisne is tied for 5-under par after beginning her day with four straight birdies on holes two through five. Her 67 was the second-best round the senior has posted this season.

Tied for eighth heading into Saturday is Kaitlyn Papp, who contributed to the strong showing with a three-under 69.

As a team, Texas is atop the leaderboard, holding a six-stroke lead over Houston and Iowa State, who each finished the first round at -10. Oklahoma State is just behind the top three at -9.

The Longhorns will pursue their second straight team title Saturday in the Grand Canyon State in round two; UT won the Wildcat Invitational March 9. Following the Mountain View Collegiate, Texas has two tournaments left on the schedule before the Big 12 Championships begin April 18.
