AUSTIN, Texas — By running the fastest time in the world this year in the women’s 400 meters, Texas sprinter Courtney Okolo earned Big 12 Athlete of the Week honors.

The defending NCAA champion in the 400, Okolo won the event in 51.16 seconds at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Neb.

Okolo’s blazing time was run in her first 400 of the season, edged teammate Ashley Spencer by .40 seconds for the title in the event and fell just .04 seconds short of matching her personal-best mark that she ran at the NCAA Championship last year.

Okolo and her sprints and jumps teammates will compete this weekend in the Tyson Invitational at Arkansas. The UT distance runners, throwers and pole vaulters will compete in the Husky Classic at the University of Washington.
