Texas defense held TCU to 88 yards rushing in the final game between the two teams in Big 12 Conference play. Texas barely emerged the winner 29-26. The defense for Texas dominated in the first half allowing TCU just 19 yards of rushing and 91 yards of passing.
Texas forced TCU to put 3 times in the first half, and sacked them twice as well. Texas did not allow TCU to convert on 3rd down once in the five tries in the first half.
In the second half, Texas help TCU to 69 yards rushing, though TCU out passed Texas 211 yards to Texas’ 73 yards in the second half.
Likely a game defining moment came when the offense became the defense. On a Qunn Ewers throw to Xavier Worhty in the first quarter, Ewers throw was a little short and was intercepted. On the run back, Jordan Whittington attempted to tackle the runner at about the 50 yard line, but missed. Whittington bounced up and chased down the runner and tackled him from behind while punching the ball out and forcing a fumble. Texas recovered the ball.
Texas defense is ranked tied for 3rd in Red Zone Defense. As the season winds down and College Football Playoffs get flushed out, it is entire possible the Texas could play Michigan. If they do, Michigan is ranked #1 in Red Zone Defense and Texas is tied for 3rd. Would be an intersting matchup.
How do you think Texas would do against Michigan if they played in the College Football Playoffs? Comment below.
