Texas has returned to their old ways of playing tough, aggressive, calculated, and poised basketball for the entire game. Like how they played against Baylor earlier in the week, Texas’ intensity and energy was high all the way to the end of the game.

Rising star, Chendall Weaver scored a season high 11 points while playing a season high 27 minutes. Once again, Weaver had critical plays for Texas that included four rebounds, a block with 1:29 left in the game to squelch an Oklahoma attempt to go on a scoring run. During the game ESPN game announcer shared that Texas head coach Rodney Terry said of Weaver, “I love his competitive energy.”

Dillion Mitchell controlled the boards with 13 rebounds, 12 of those were defensive rebounds.

Rodney Terry in the post game press conference said, “I think we really locked down defensively, sat down guarded, really did a good job on the glass. They [Oklahoma] is a really good offensive rebounding team. Two elite offensive rebounders. So, I think that was a big difference for us.”

Texas had a total of 40 rebounds, 32 were defensive and 19 offensive compared to Oklahoma’s 24 rebounds with just five being offensive rebounds.

Texas controlled and led for 13:29 of the 20 minutes in the first half, then Oklahoma rallied and kept the lead going into halftime by one point, 33-32.

It took Texas 2: 06 minutes to come back in the second half and take the lead and never gave it back the rest of the game. Though it was close in the middle of the second half when the Sooners came within one point and even tied once, then Chendall Weaver made back-to-back free throws giving way to a 17 point run by Texas that saw Dylan Disu hit another one of his three-pointers along with Abmas.

Next up is another road game against another ranked team, No. 21 BYU in Provo. BYU played No. 4 Houston at home and lost 75-68. Right after Texas travels to BYU, they play Houston. The Big 12 Conference is really good.

Coach Terry said, “Any win in this conference is a big win.” Max Abmas said, “You have to bring your ‘A’ game every night.”
