Texas Longhorns success formula effective in win over Michigan 31-12

The Texas Longhorns went to the Michigan “Big House” and cleaned it.

For the first time in history, the Texas Longhorns played the Michigan Wolverines in a regular season game and they won 31-12.

Two ranked behemoths, #10 Michigan, the 2023 National Champions plus a 23 home game win streak, welcomed #3 ranked Texas Longhorns. who was also considered the favorite.

On Thursday before traveling to Michigan, coach Sarkisian was on the podcast “The Herd with Colin Cowherd” where he was asked by Cowherd, “What’s the one thing you said, Quinn, let’s work on this. Let’s make this a point of attack in the off-season?”

Sarkisian’s reply, “This is your team, go lead them.”

So he did!

Quinn Ewers threw 36 passes, 24 connected for 246 yards and three touchdowns. Ewers controlled the game.

Over the 10 drives in the game, the Texas offense ran 68 plays for 389 total yards, controlled the clock for 31:26 minutes, almost 20 minutes in the first half.

Gunnar Helm had a stellar game with seven catches for 98 yards, Helm scored Texas’ first touchdown of the game on a deep 21 yard pass up the middle in the end zone.

It was a given the Texas offense would be formidable. The defense was the biggest question on everyone’s mind…could the Texas defense stop the powerful run of Michigan?

Texas’ defense held Michigan to 80 yards rushing. Of the 10 drives for Michigan, two ended in a punt, two on interception, one a fumble, and one on downs.

That’s control. Texas controlled Michigan.

After the game in the locker room, Sarkisian addressed the team saying, “Listen…”

Trust me, during the Monday morning news conference, I will be asking the obvious question.
