Since his impressive performance at the Orange-White scrimmage in March, Tyrone Swoopes has captured the imagination of Longhorn fans [s2If current_user_can(access_s2member_level2)] far and wide. And after Ash’s injury in the second week of the season, the pleas from Longhorn nation to see Swoopes behind center only grew.

However, following Case McCoy’s impressive final drive against Iowa State, and his calm, methodical annihilation of Oklahoma, those pleas turned into more realistic assertions: “Let McCoy finish out the season and don’t burn Swoopes’ redshirt by letting him take a snap.”

Well, turns out fans could conceivably get their first view of Swoopes this weekend against TCU.

“Tyrone’s had a good week,” Brown said. “We would be the most comfortable all year putting him in this weekend, if we needed to.”

“If we needed to” being the key phrase.

There’s no doubt McCoy will receive his fourth start of the season. However, Brown also hinted at trying out different offensive looks against TCU, at least if offensive coordinator Major Applewhite sees the necessity. Yet, it’s not Swoopes who’s likely to see time with this new look, but Jalen Overstreet.

“Jalen still has his package,” Brown said. “So he might even go in the game first if Major decided to put him in.”

Nonetheless, Brown’s confidence in Swoopes is growing. Before, Swoopes had no chance of entering the game, even as a backup to McCoy. Now, Brown appears to be singing a different tune.

“If Case came out of the game for any significant reason, Tyrone would go on.”
