Football
Despite not having any University of Texas Longhorn Football players selected in the 2014 NFL Draft this week, several former Texas Longhorn standouts signed with teams as undrafted free agents.
Defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat was signed by the Superbowl champion Seattle Seahawks and joins former Texas safety Earl Thomas. Defensive tackle Chris Whaley was signed by the Dallas Cowboys and joins former Texas defensive end Henry Melton. Offensive lineman Trey Hopkins signed a deal with the Cincinnati Bengals. Offensive lineman Donald Hawkins signed a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles and joins former Texas linebacker Emmanuel Acho. Defensive back Carrington Byndom signed a deal with the Carolina Panthers.
Wide receiver Mike Davis, placekicker Anthony Fera, defensive back Adrian Phillips, offensive lineman Mason Walters, and defensive end Reggie Wilson are still undrafted free agents that could sign with a team within the next few days.
Baseball
The University of Texas Longhorn Baseball team is back in action on Tuesday night against Texas State. The Longhorns have not played since May 4, when they lost their Big 12 series two games to one against West Virginia. The game against Texas State will be broadcast on the Longhorn Network with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. Central time.
Following their game against Texas State, the Longhorns will travel to Manhattan, Kansas this weekend for their three-game series against Kansas State (May 16-18). The series will be the Longhorns' final Big 12 Conference series of the regular season before they start the Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship Tournament on May 21-25.
Softball
The University of Texas Softball team are gearing up for the NCAA Tournament and have earned the two seed in the 2014 NCAA Regional in Lafayette, La. The Longhorns recently finished a two-game series against the Baylor Bears to finish the regular season. After losing the first game of the series to Baylor, the Longhorns rallied and beat Baylor 3-2 on Senior Day to improve their overall record to 33-21 and their conference record to 12-6.
The NCAA Regional in Lafayette is a four-team, double elimination bracket that will take place on May 16-18. Texas will open the Regional on Friday at 3:00 p.m. CT against Mississippi State.
Besides Mississippi State the Longhorns are joined by Louisiana Lafayette, who won the Sun Belt Conference Championship and Texas Southern who won the Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship.
