Baseball
The Texas baseball team finished the 2013 regular season with a three-game series against TCU and lost two out of three games.
On Thursday, in the first game of the series, TCU defeated Texas, 5-1, behind right-handed pitcher Preston Morrison. Morrison recorded his seventh win of the season and pitched eight scoreless innings.
Mark Payton led the Longhorns at the plate going 2 for 3. Brooks Marlow drove in the Longhorns’ only run of the game in the ninth inning on a RBI-double.
The Longhorns dropped their second game against TCU on Friday, 9-3. TCU scored six runs in the eighth inning to record their 28th win of the season and 12th conference victory.
Mark Payton went 3 for 5 and drove in two runs. C.J Hinojosa went 3 for 3 from the plate with two doubles and two walks.
The Horn Frogs’ Boomer White went 2 for 5 from the plate and drove in three runs.
The Longhorns were able to end their 2013 season on a high note by winning the final game against TCU 3-0.
Nathan Thornhill pitched a complete-game shutout and struck out five batters in the Longhorns’ victory. C.J Hinojosa went 3 for 4 at the plate and drove in two runs. Brooks Marlow doubled twice and scored twice.
The Longhorns end the 2013 season with an overall record of 27-24 and 7-17 in conference play.
Softball
The No. 4 seed Texas softball team swept their Regional in Austin with three consecutive victories at the 2013 NCAA Softball Championships. The Longhorns now advance to the Super Regional in Austin this week and play Florida State in a three-game series….[s2If current_user_can(access_s2member_level2)]
Texas shut out Army, 5-0, on Friday behind a three-run home run by Mandy Ogle in the first inning and excellent pitching from Blaire Luna and Kim Bruins. Bruins picked up her 10th win of the season and struck out three batters over four innings of relief work.
Texas returned on Saturday with a, 11-2, victory over South Carolina in five innings. Taylor Hoagland hit a solo home run in the first inning and recorded four RBIs overall. Kim Bruins set a career high with four hits in the game.
Seven Longhorns recorded a RBI in the game—Brejae Washington, Taylor Thom, Kim Bruins, Torie Schmidt, Karina Scott, Gabby Smith, Stephanie Ceo.

Texas matched up with South Carolina again on Sunday after the Gamecocks defeated Houston in an elimination game. The Longhorns defeated South Carolina for the second time this week and shut them down, 6-0.
Blaire Luna pitched a complete-game shutout and struck out 8 batters in her 28th win of the season.
Taylor Thom was responsible for all six of Texas’ runs in the game. Thom homered in first inning to put Texas up, 2-0. Then in fifth inning, with the bases loaded, Thom hit a grand slam to put Texas on top, 6-0. The grand slam is Thom’s 4th this season. Thom also broke the single-season RBI record with 63.
Texas is two victories away from a berth in the Women’s College World Series. The Longhorns will host Florida State in the Super Regionals at Red & Charline McCombs Field on Friday in Game 1.
Men’s Golf
The No. 3 Texas Men’s golf team finished third at the Fayetteville Regional and secured their spot at the NCAA Championships for the seventh straight time.
Cody Gribble finished tied for 10th at 3-over par. Kramer Hickok and Toni Hakula both finished tied for 18th at 5-over. Freshman Brandon Stone finished tied for 26th at 9-over par.
The NCAA Championships will be held in Atlanta, Ga. from May 28th-June 2nd.
Women’s Golf
The Texas Women’s Golf team finished in fifth place at the NCAA East Regional Championship two weeks ago and secured a spot in the NCAA Championship.The NCAA Championship is being held on May 21-24 at UGA Golf Course in Athens, Ga.

Men’s Tennis
Soren-Hess Olesen will compete in the 64-player singles draw and Chris Camillone / David Holliner will compete in the 32-team doubles draw in the 2013 NCAA Championships. The individual singles and doubles competition will be held on May 22-27 in Urbana, Illinois.
Women’s Tennis
Three Texas Women’s tennis players are playing in the NCAA singles and doubles competitions starting this week.
Aeriel Ellis will take on North Carolina State’s Joelle Kissell in the opening round of the singles competition. Breaunna Addison plays USC’s Danielle Lao in the opening round.
Addison and Noel Scott play in the doubles competition this Thursday. Addison and Scott will meet Arizona State’s Jacqueline Cako and Nicole Smith in the opening round.
Track and Field
The University of Texas at Austin will host the 2013 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field West Preliminary Round on May 23th-25th. The qualifying individuals advance to the 2013 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon on June 5-8.
Longhorn MVP
This week’s MVP goes to—Taylor Thom and the Texas Softball team—for sweeping their Regional in Austin this weekend and advancing to the Super Regional against Florida State. Taylor Thom hit her 4th grand slam of the season and broke the school’s single-season RBI record with 63.
Honorable Mention
This week’s Honorable Mention goes to—the No. 3 Texas Men’s Golf team—for placing third at the Fayetteville Regional and securing their seven-straight NCAA Championship appearance.
