Scheffler helps Team USA golf tie for seventh after first round of World Amateur Team Championship

RIVIERA MAYA, Mexico — Texas junior Scottie Scheffler fired a two-over-par 73 Wednesday to help team USA tie for seventh place in the first round of the World Amateur Team Championship.

Scheffler, who was one of just three college players from the United States chosen to play in the event, drained three birdies in the first round.

Team USA finished five under par, five shots behind Scotland, which led after the first day. The tournament includes teams from 71 nations. Each team has two or three players and will play 18 holes of stroke play over four days.
