Joyner Holmes named Big 12 Women’s Basketball Freshman of the Week

AUSTIN, Texas — After averaging 16.5 points and 12.5 rebounds in a pair of victories over a pair of Big 12 rivals, University of Texas guard/forward has been named the Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Week.

The 6-foot-3 Joyner, from Cedar Hill, Texas, helped lead the Longhorns to [s2If current_user_can(access_s2member_level2)]an 86-68 victory over No. 20 Oklahoma and a 77-57 victory at [RV] Texas Tech, improving their record to 14-4 overall and 8-0 in games against Big 12 opponents.

In addition to her scoring and rebounding, Holmes also blocked 1.5 shots per game and connected on half (13 of 26) field goals. The back-to-back double-doubles were the third and fourth in her career.

Against the Sooners, Holmes led all scorers with 20 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, reaching that double-plateau for the first time in her career. Against Tech, she scored 13 points and pulled down a career-high 15 rebounds.

Texas returns to action Wednesday in Fort Worth against TCU in an 8 p.m. game that will be broadcast on Fox Sports Southwest Plus.
