the day 17 shots behind the Aggies before posting the low round of the day (292) to narrow the gap.
“We could’ve won the WAC championship,” coach Jay Rees said. “We shot the low round of the day, but unfortunately counted 13 doubles for the week.” McConnell was the only golfer to break 70 in the final round. The Garland native has won three tournaments during his UT Arlington career, including the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic in the 2011-12 season and the San Diego Intercollegiate in 2010-11.
“I haven’t felt this way since I won at Notre Dame my junior year,” McConnell said. “I wish we could’ve made it as a team, but we played great and made a run at New Mexico State. I was proud of how well we played that last day.” McConnell becomes fifth UT Arlington golfer to win an individual conference title, and the first since Zack Fischer was a Southland Conference co-medalist in 2009.
