AUSTIN, Texas – Even after a win, the Longhorns need a big bounce back game traveling to take on the what seemingly is a tougher task up against the Horned Frogs this week.
Here’s our roundup of what we learned Monday after the Kansas win, as Texas travels to take on TCU Saturday. [s2If current_user_can(access_s2member_level2)]
• Texas is 63-25-1 all-time against the Horned Frogs and 1-1 under head coach Tom Herman. The Longhorns defeated TCU, 31-16, last season in Austin to snap a four-game skid against the Horned Frogs.
• Herman on last year’s TCU game:
“Actually, this morning, we were into the third quarter rewatching that game from last year, and I’m saying, ‘When did we score all these points again?’ I had forgotten that they had kicked our butts offensively for a good 2½ quarters until late in the third quarter when our defense actually gave us some really good field position and we capitalized on it.”
• Saturday’s game will be the series’ 39th matchup in Fort Worth, where Texas holds a 27-11 advantage over TCU. The first contest between the schools was played in 1897, when the Longhorns defeated the Horned Frogs, 18-10. Texas and TCU met almost annually following that first encounter up until the Longhorns joined the Big 12 Conference prior to the 1996 season.
• Herman on Texas tight end Cade Brewer, who had a huge 51-yard catch in the Longhorns 50-48 win over Kansas:
“We know what Cade can do. We’re throwing the ball pretty good through seven games and to say that we have got to change or add to our repertoire or anything like that would be a bit silly. It just so happened that a couple of those plays were we had very advantageous looks to run them and we called plays and he executed.”

• Texas owns the largest victory for either school in the all-time series, having posted a 72-0 win over TCU at home in 1915. The Longhorns won 24 straight games over TCU from 1968-91, the longest winning streak by either school in the series.
• Herman on running back Keaontay Ingram, who had 101 yards and a touchdown rushing on 14 carries in the win against Kansas:
“Keaontay…yes, was good to see him get rolling again. I think it was the first time Texas had ever had a 390-yard passer, a 100-yard receiver and a 100-yard running back in the same game. So that was good to see kind of all cylinders, so to speak. And he’s a big part of that. And when he’s going and his understanding and his vision is on point, I think you see the kind of back that he can be.”
• Texas kicker Cameron Dicker was named the Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week for his 33-yard game-winning field goal against Kansas.
• Herman noted that D’Shawn Jamison straddled the sideline on the game’s opening kickoff that went out of bounds prior to a scoring drive, properly executing a coaching point they gave him.
• Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger has 2,057 passing yards in seven games and remains on pace to challenge Colt McCoy for the single-season passing record (3,859 yards, 2008).
• Ehlinger, with 21 TD passes, is also working to pass McCoy’s single-season touchdown record of 34 (2008). McCoy holds the top three spots in the Texas record book in that category.

The 15th-ranked Longhorns (5-2, 3-1 in Big 12 play) square off against the Horned Frogs (3-3, 1-2 in Big 12) on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth.
