Baseball blanked by Texas A&M, 2-0

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Three Texas pitchers combined to scatter six hits while striking out 10 and allowing only two runs in a strong performance Tuesday at Texas A&M’s Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.

But Texas A&M’s pitchers were better, striking out nine Longhorns in a four-hit shutout as the Aggies blanked the No. 8 Longhorns, 2-0. Texas baserunners reached third base in each of the first two innings, but were unable to score.

The loss dropped the Horns’ record to 17-8, while the Aggies improved to 18-9.

Texas starter Pete Hansen took the loss after allowing one run on four hits over 5-1/3 innings, the longest outing of his UT career. His first loss of the season dropped his record this year to 2-1.

Freshman hurler Nathan Dettmer allowed three hits and struck out six over seven innings to pick up the win, improving his record to 3-1.

A&M got the only run it would need in the fourth inning when right fielder Logan Britt drilled a home run down the left field line. Catcher Mike Hoehner gave the Aggies an insurance run in the seventh when he clubbed a solo home run of his own off a light pole in left field.

Catcher Silas Ardoin led the UT offense with a pair of hits and a walk, while first baseman Zach Zubia and second baseman Mitch Daly each picked up a single hit.

The Longhorns now head north for a three-game series at Kansas, starting at 6 p.m. Thursday in a game that can be seen on Big 12 NOW on ESPN+.
