Andrew Jones, Greg Brown earn weekly Big 12 awards
AUSTIN, Texas — Texas guard Andrew Jones and forward Greg Brown were named Player of the Week and Newcomer of the Week, respectively, by the Big 12 Conference after the Longhorns' 72-70 victory Saturday at No. 14 West Virginia.
Jones hit the game-winning shot in head coach Shaka Smart's 100th victory at Texas as he scored 16 points and became the 39th player in program history to score over 1,000 points. Adding to the significance of his performance was that it marked the three-year anniversary that he announced to his team that he was diagnosed with leukemia.
Brown posted his fourth double-double of the season Saturday. He scored 12 points and tied his season-high with 14 rebounds. It marked the second time this season that he received the honor.
Ranked at No. 4 in Monday's Associated Press top 25 poll, the Horns will battle another ranked opponent Wednesday in Austin, facing No. 15 Texas Tech at 8 p.m. (Central time) on ESPN2.
