AP ranks Texas Football No. 15 Before Arkansas 66 Year Rivalry
AUSTIN, Texas - Texas football leaped six positions to No. 15 from both AP and USA TODAY polls. Sarkisian's former team, Alabama (1,571 points) remains No. 1. Only three Big 12 teams are ranked in the Top 25: No. 4 Oklahoma (1374), No. 9 Iowa State (1,045), and No. 15 Texas (683).
In the polling, other Big 12 team that received points were TCU (80), Oklahoma State (39), Kansas State (13), and Texas Tech (2) who beat out Appalachian State by one point in the polling.
Texas travels to Fayetteville to face Arkansas at 7 p.m. on Saturday Sept. 11.
Because of playing on Sept. 11, during this week's media availability, Sarkisian was ask if the team would do anything unique like they did when he was coaching at Washington and the team created a specific logo for their helmets. Texas will not have any special decals on their helmets or uniforms, but will be classy. Sarkisian shared that he had a cousin in one of the towers who did not make it out.
This will be only the sixth time Texas and Arkansas have played since 1991 after Arkansas joined the SEC. Before then the teams had played sixty years in a row.
We discovered an old Arkansas program from Dec 6, 1969 when Darrell K Royal was Texas' head coach and Frank Broyles was Arkansas' head coach that shows the all-time series results since 1894 to 1968.
After defeating Arkansas in 1969, Texas would go undefeated and win their second National Championship.
Steve Sarkisian was the named the 2020 Frank Broyles Award Winner as the best assistant coach in college football. The award is presented by the Frank Broyles Foundation.
