On a beautiful summer day in Ohio with perfect weather, no humidity and clear skies, 107,524 fans gathered at “The Shoe” in Columbus for the most anticipated college football game in recent history. Certainly of the season with 16.6 million viewers watching on FOX.

The day marked the last time Lee Corso would be on the set of GameDay next to his longtime partner Kirk Herbstreit. Corso has been with GameDay since its inception in 1987 and Herbstreit since 1996 marking 29 years they were a team.

It was Arch Manning starting debut as QB1 for Texas. Manning, fans, his grandfather, dad, mom, brother, sister, uncles and friends have been waiting two years as Manning paid his dues behind Quinn Ewers.

The event was so huge Homeland Security was there along with SWAT and hundreds of police. The entire Manning family was said to be there watching along with the Governor of Texas Greg Abbott,  former New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, four GMs from NFL teams, and 31 NFL scouts were credentialed for the game according to ESPN.

It took us two and half hours to get to our parking spot after getting off on the freeway that was half a mile away, and we arrived at 9am, about an hour or two too late.

The air was fresh, the sun bright but not too hot, and the stadium was loud, but not as loud as DKR.

Texas had one problem. Matt Patricia was the new defensive coordinator for Ohio State and would bring every bit of his three-time Super Bowl winning experience with the New England Patriots to bear upon Texas and Manning.

Sarkisian commented in the post-game press conference, “they had an elite defense.”

Ohio State partially shut down the Texas offense led by Manning, but also Manning and the offense had some missteps that Manning owned up to after the game.

During the Monday press conference, Arch Manning took ‘extreme ownership’ for the game. A trait you rarely see, yet Manning walking tall into the press conference, shoulders back, paced, and faced the media like a pro.

Manning owned every part of Texas’ defeat. Here is what he said,

When you find someone who takes ‘extreme ownership’ for everything they are responsible for, you’ll know that is a leader at the next level.
