Around the Big 12: Oklahoma State remains undefeated, hosts Longhorns Saturday
Oklahoma State 24, Iowa State 21
Running back Chuba Hubbard rushed for 139 yards and one touchdown to lead No. 6 Oklahoma State over No. 17 Iowa State Saturday in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
In the Big 12’s most highly anticipated game of the week, Oklahoma State controlled the pace nearly the entire afternoon. The Cyclones briefly tied the contest at 14-14 early in the third quarter, but the hosts responded with 10 unanswered points to put the game away.
Iowa State’s Breece Hall had a game-high 185 rushing yards on 20 carries in a losing effort.
The win for Oklahoma State keeps its blemish-free ledger intact. The Cowboys will test their 4-0 record against Texas next week in Stillwater. Iowa State, 3-2, will be on the road in Lawrence for a date with Kansas.
Kansas State 55, Kansas 14
Will Howard threw for 243 yards and two scores to lift Kansas State past Kansas in a blowout in Manhattan.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 20-0 advantage by the second quarter and never relented from there. Kansas State had 10 different receivers catch at least one pass and seven different rushers who had at least one carry.
KU’s Jalon Daniels threw for just over 200 yards in the losing effort.
The win pushes Kansas State to 4-1 on the year and 4-0 in conference play. The Wildcats will be on the road at West Virginia next week. Kansas is still looking for its first win at 0-5, and will play No. 23 Iowa State Saturday.
Oklahoma 33, TCU 14
Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler threw for 332 yards and two touchdowns to allow Oklahoma to cruise over TCU Saturday from Fort Worth.
The Sooners led wire-to-wire in a rather uncompetitive game against the 1-3 Horned Frogs. T.J. Pledger chipped in 122 rushing yards on 20 carries for Oklahoma as the offense compiled 498 total yards.
Quarterback Max Duggan threw for 276 yards in a losing effort for a TCU team that struggled to stay on the field. The home team was 5-14 on third down.
Oklahoma edged over .500 again this year, now at 3-2 with the win. The Sooner will play Texas Tech next week. TCU will be on the road at Baylor.
Texas Tech 34, West Virginia 27
Myles Price hauled in seven catches for 79 yards to narrowly lead Texas Tech over West Virginia from Lubbock Saturday.
In what turned into the Big 12’s best game of the week, it was a 56-yard fumble return for a touchdown by West Virginia cornerback Zech McPhearson that turned the game in the fourth quarter. The Mountaineers were driving with a chance to take the lead inside Texas Tech territory, but Sam Jones was stripped on a routine screenplay.
Jarrett Doege put up 347 yards passing in his return to his hometown. Doege, the West Virginia quarterback from Lubbock, now is near the top of the country with nine touchdown passes this season.
With the win, Texas Tech is 2-3 overall and 1-3 in conference games. The Red Raiders will play No. 24 Oklahoma next week. West Virginia is 3-2 on the year and will play No. 16 Kansas State next week.
