THE GOLF COACHES Association of America awarded Ryan Murphy the 2013 Jan Strickland Assistant Coach of the Year Award on April 30. The Strickland Award is presented to an assistant coach who has helped their student-athletes excel both on the course and in the classroom.

this award,” Murphy said. “It’s due in large part to the efforts of our players, and to the opportunity that John Fields gave me here at Texas.” Murphy, for- merely the men’s golf head coach at St. Edward’s and the assistant coach at New Mexico, assumed his post at Texas prior to the 2008 season.
He helped guide the Longhorns to the 2012 NCAA Championship and was instrumental in the recruitment and development of All-Americans Dylan Frittelli, Jordan Spieth and Cody Gribble. A club repair specialist, Murphy over- sees club fitting needs for the Longhorns. He also works closely with team members regard- ing course strategies and management. Under Fields and Murphy, the Longhorns have claimed five victories this season, including the Big 12 Championship.
