Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown: Texas Longhorns silence Texas A&M Aggies 17-7

Texas Football still runs the state!

Both teams stewed for 13 years waiting for this game. Texas was the favorite, however the Aggies were also playing for a chance to play Georgia in the SEC Championship.

Winners find ways to win.

In post-game Steve Sarkisian said, “You know, they’ve been preparing week after week after week. They continue to show up. We continue to find ways to to improve and get better. And I thought just defensively, tonight was an absolute dominant performance.”

The Longhorn put up 458 yards of total offense. Ewers passed for 218 yards on 17 completions. Quintrevion Wisner rushed 33 times for 186 yards, or 85% of Texas’ 240 rushing yards.

Ewers’ has now thrown a touchdown pass in 23-straight games. Jaydon Blue caught a seven yard pass that was thrown with absolute NFL-style perfection.

The precision of the ball was sublime. A few inches higher or lower, left or right, would have resulted in an incomplete. Blue also planted his foot perfectly at the corner of the end zone as he pulled in the ball for the score.

The play was so close, the human eye could not take it all in resulting in a review. Every angle had to be inspected and slowed down in order to see and appreciate the throw and catch. For sure a touchdown.

Arch Manning rushes for a diving touchdown that just brushes the pylon in the end zone.

On a designed play that Sarkisian had been working on for several weeks, Arch Manning came in for a couple plays on the drive prior and rushed left for a touchdown that required a long dive where the ball grazed the pylon thus extending the end zone.

Matthew Golden led the team in receiving yards with 73 on three receptions, Gunnar Helm pulled in six balls for 56 years, and Ryan Wingo put up 49 yards on two catches.

The Texas defense, as Aggie head coach Mike Elko said, physically annihilated us [Texas A&M]!” Vernon Broughton was crushing with two key sacks, two tackles for loss, and a fumble recovery after Trey Moore forced a fumble on Texas A&M’s Marcel Reed sack.

The Texas defense did not allow the Aggies to score a single point even when they were one yard shy of the end zone.

Texas put a stop to the noise, speakers and all, on their way to a 17-7 victory. Texas A&M head coach said after the game, “We tried a lot of different things … the edges absolutely dominated us tonight … yeah we did terrible, absolutely terrible. Hats off to them because they physically annihilated us!”

In post game press, we asked Sarkisian about the Texas Longhorns fans and he responded with, “I thought Longhorn Nation was awesome tonight. They showed up and I always I was chuckle when when I see the ticket prices go up really high. That means the Longhorns are buying the tickets and everyone knows they’ll buy them. But they showed up tonight, which was great. And we’re going to need them again next week in Atlanta.”

Texas gets a rematch with Georgia in the SEC Championship at Mercedes-Benz field in Atlanta on Dec 7. with a 3 p.m. kickoff.

See you at the championship game.
