AUSTIN, Texas — When Texas football fans crowd into Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium this fall, the more astute among them will notice some significant changes the school has put into the stadium in order to improve the gameday experience.

The stadium will feature new LED video boards throughout the stadium, a new sound system and improved mobile connectivity.

"An exceptional fan experience at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium is a priority in making it one of the most exciting venues in college sports," UT men's athletics director Mike Perrin said. "Our investment in these upgrades will help create a gameday experience that Texas fans expect and deserve."

The new video system features more than 14,000 square feet of LED technology that will show team graphics, real-time game updates and game prompts. The main video display in the south end zone has been updated and 770 feet of new ribbon boards on the sideline fascia, tunnels and end zones are being installed.

The new sound system includes two scoreboard speaker array enclosures that are 25 feet tall and sit atop the main LED video board in the south end zone. There also are 384 speakers throughout the stadium, including 48 18-inch high-power subwoofer drivers.

"Upgrading to LED technology throughout the stadium and installing a new sound system are important factors,” Perrin said, “in providing entertaining content during the game.”

UT fans also can hope to have better mobile connectivity while in the stadium beginning this football season, as the number of mobile zones within the stadium will more than double, eventually leading to significant improvement in mobile connectivity. Improved signals will not be immediate, as the new equipment and system will be tested and fine-tuned during the first few home games under actual game conditions.
