AUSTIN, Texas - Texas women's tennis coach Howard Joffe shares the secret to what makes the team elite. It is the secret that helped Roger Federer and all elite players go from good to great.

Coach Joffe discusses the critical coach inside our head that create negative emotions and beat us up when we do not live up to the expectations we have for ourselves. Joffe is training players to recognize, accept, and harness those emotions and to be able to release them at the perfect time during a match, or when players need to perform at the highest levels.

During the interview, coach Joffe references making your bed. His reference reminded me of the book Make Your Bed by Admiral William H. McRaven and former Chancellor of the University of Texas.

The insight and understanding Joffe has for helping players and teams reach peak performance can be applied across all of life and sports. Maybe one day Joffe would write such a book.

Texas women's tennis is seated No. 2 nationally going into this weekend NCAA Championship round one and two being held at the Texas Tennis Center in Austin.

I like exploring the why's and have three objectives. First is to give value to those who would spend time with our content. Second is to be respectful of others and for the opportunity to tell a positive story about all of the Texas Longhorns teams, players, and coaches regardless of their record. Lastly, to put wind in the sails of others using the Horns Illustrated platform. Life is GOOD!
