Coach Schaefer never took off his jacket during the game which signals that Texas was playing exception basketball the entire game. Defense wins games and so does 50% (26-52) shooting from the field and 50% (5-10) from three point range, plus 80% (12-15) at the free throw line.
Aaliyah Moore lead the game with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists. Shaylee Gonzales put in 15 points of which nine were three pointers. Shay Holle was the third Longhorn in double digits with 12 points and six rebounds.
Texas controlled the boards with 39 rebounds, 29 defensive and 10 offensive.
On defense, Texas held Gonzaga to their lowest score game of the season. This was because Texas would not allow Gonzaga into the paint for a shot keeping them outside the three point arc. Gonzaga had 18 points in the paint to Texas’ 36 points in the paint.
Texas had the lead the entire game except for once in at the beginning of the game, 3:00 minutes in the first quarter for about a minute and a half when Gonzaga tied it 4-4 then went up by three points. Texas quickly regained control and never game it back.
At the half Texas was up by 19 points. In the third and fourth quaters, Texas kept the pressure and the points dropping going ahead as much as 25 points at one point.
Texas advances to the Elite 8. This is their third time in the past four season they have reached the Elite 8 (2021, 2022, 2024).
On Mar 31 (Sun) at 2PM CT, Texas plays NC State for the chane to reach the Finial Four for the first time since 2003.
