With star players filling the roster from top to bottom, the Texas softball team stands to make a run at a national title this year. The team’s fervor mimics their attitude from their 2011 season, and after only losing two starters, the lineup remains relatively the same.

The Longhorns, however, need one change from last season:  an injury-free Lexy Bennett.

The team had high hopes for bringing a national championship home last season, until one mid-April afternoon at Red and Charlene McCombs Field. In the bottom of the sixth inning — in a game which the Longhorns would beat Iowa State for their ninth Big 12 victory — a pitch struck Bennett’s right arm, benching her for 12 games. At that moment, Texas’ season changed for the worst.
