First SEC game a WIN! Texas is now 5-0 in “Phase 1” as Sarkisian calls it as Texas goes into their first bye week.
Texas put up 522 yards of total offense with five touchdowns. Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian said after the game that when Texas has 300 yards passing and 200 yard rushing, that feels about right for us.
Arch Manning continued to impress passing 324 yards while going 26-31 with two touchdowns. One touchdown was a quarterback keeper and the other a deep 49 yard pass to DeAndre Moore Jr. that connected as Moore was in stride. Just as Manning released the ball he was smashed to the ground by MSS Stone Blanton. Had Manning thrown the ball a half-second later, it would not have made it.
Moore went on to have 103 yards receiving, a total of two touchdowns on four catches. Sarkisian shared after the game that he was watching Moore even during pregame warm ups to see if he was ready to play and had fully recovered. Sarkisian felt he was ready and it was Moore’s best game.
Jaydon Blue rushed six times for 36 yards and a touchdown. Isaiah Bond rushed once and it was for 26 yards that ended up a TOUCHDOWN.
The Texas defense was destructive with a total of six sacks while holding Mississippi State to 294 total offense.
Just after a Texas fumble that turned over the ball, senior defensive lineman #45 Vernon Broughton from Houston, Texas came around the corner on a perfectly timed ball snap and stripped the ball out of the hands of Mississippi State quarterback Michael Van Buren Jr before he even threw the ball. The ball dropped tot he ground and Broughton covered it to recover the fumble.
