Habe on the Horns: Wide open — fundamentals and poor technique hurt Texas defense against Cal

AUSTIN, Texas — The University of Texas football coaching staff will stress fundamentals and proper technique while preparing the Longhorns’ beleaguered defense this week for Saturday's Big 12 opener in Austin against Oklahoma State, especially in the wake of a third consecutive poor showing Saturday in a 45-44 loss to California.
Texas allowed 548 yards of offense to the Golden Bears, including 280 yards on the ground, and most of that was earned right up the middle, where the Longhorns are supposed to be at their strongest. In their first three games of 2015, the Longhorns have surrendered 1,537 yards of total offense (512.3 yards per contest), which ranks 118th nationally out of 127 FBS schools. The 'Horns have capitulated 722 yards on the ground (240.7 per game), putting them 119th nationally.
