Horns Illustrated Week in Review

Football

The Longhorn football team played their annual Orange-White scrimmage Saturday evening. The scrimmage gave fans an opportunity to see the up-tempo offense that co-offensive coordinators Major Applewhite and Darrell Wyatt have been installing this spring. The “Texas” team came away with the advantage over the “Horns” team 30-13.

Starting quarterback David Ash put in a decent performance, completing 17-24 passes for 162 yards and two touchdowns—but also threw two interceptions. Ash’s first touchdown came on a 38-yard pass to….[s2If current_user_can(access_s2member_level2)]a wide open Mike Davis for an easy score. Ash threw his second touchdown pass to Kendall Sanders on a quick 9-yard strike—Sanders then made a few of the Texas defenders miss before running 15 more yards into the endzone.

The Longhorn fans seemed the most excited by Texas’ freshman quarterback Tyrone Swoopes’ play. Swoopes went 2-2 passing, but it was his running ability that had Texas fans hollering in the stands. Swoopes made several big runs with his feet and showed good composure when pressured out of the pocket.
