The Texas Baseball team swept Texas Southern in doubleheader action on Saturday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
In the first game of the doubleheader, three Longhorn pitchers combined to throw a no-hitter over seven innings and helped Texas to a 4-0 victory. Ty Marlow drove in two runs. Four Texas batters finished with two hits in the first game—Mark Payton, C.J Hinojosa, Jeremy Montalbano, and Collin Shaw.
Parker French (4-4) got the designated start in the first game and picked up his fourth win of the season. French went three innings and struck out two. Travis Duke and Corey Knebel came on in relief and pitched two innings each. Duke struck out one batter and Knebel struck out four batters. Knebel picked up his ninth save of the season.
In the second game of the doubleheader, three Texas pitchers combined to allow one hit and helped Texas to a 12-0 victory. Dillon Peters (6-3) got the designated start and recorded his sixth win of the season. Peters pitched three innings and allowed one hit, a walk and struck out three. Nathan Thornhill came on in relief in the fourth inning and struck out two batters over four innings pitched. Josh Urban came on in relief in the eighth inning and allowed a walk and struck out one batter.
Four Texas batters drove in two runs apiece. Brooks Marlow, Mark Payton, Jeremy Montalbano, and Taylor Stell.
Texas hit three triples in both games. Hinojosa and Mark Payton finished with two triples apiece, one in each game. Mark Payton now has eight triples this season and is tied for the fourth-best in school history. Payton has also reached base safely in 37 consecutive games.
The Longhorns garnered 26 hits in the doubleheader, 10 of them were for extra bases.
The Longhorns were hoping to make the Big 12 Tournament, but TCU's win over West Virginia on Sunday eliminates the Longhorn's chances at the postseason. On Thursday, Texas will face TCU in a three-game series in Forth Worth.
Softball
The No. 7/6 Texas Softball team defeated Baylor, 2-1, in extra innings on Sunday at Red & Charline McCombs Field.
