The Horns Illustrated Week in Review covers all the University of Texas sporting events that took place this past week

Football

The University of Texas Longhorn football team defeated the Kansas Jayhawks 35-13 on Saturday at DKR Texas Memorial Stadium. With the win, the Longhorns improved their record to 5-0 in the Big 12 and 6-2 overall.

Malcolm Brown carried the Texas offense with 119 yards rushing and a career-high four touchdowns. Johnathan Gray finished with 68 yards on the ground. Case McCoy went 20 for 29 passing for 196 yards, and threw two interceptions.

Jaxon Shipley led the Texas offense in receiving and finished with 77 yards on six receptions.

On defense Chris Whaley returned a fumble for a 40-yard touchdown. The score was Whaley's second defensive touchdown of the season (he previously scored in the Oklahoma-Texas game).

Kicker Anthony Fera was named a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award, an award given at the end of the season to the top placekicker in college football.

Texas will travel to Morgantown, West Virginia to take on the West Virginia Mountaineers on Saturday, Nov. 9.

Volleyball

The No. 1 Texas Volleyball team defeated the No. 25 Oklahoma Sooners on the road 3-1 (25-15, 25-17, 25-27, 25-21). Senior Hannah Allison recorded a season-high 52 assists in the match. Haley Eckerman led the Longhorns with a match-high 19 kills. It was the Longhorns' 13th consecutive victory this season. Texas improves their unbeaten Big 12 record to 10-0.

Texas will host Kansas on Nov. 9 in their next match at Gregory Gym.

Cross Country

University of Texas senior women's cross country runner Marielle Hall took home the individual title at the 2013 Big 12 Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning at Cottonwood Creek Golf Course.

Hall's first-place finish was the first ever for a Longhorn at the Big 12 league meet on both the men's and women's sides.

Soccer

The Texas Women's Soccer team fell to No. 12 Texas Tech 1-0 Nov. 1. Goalkeeper Abby Smith recorded a season-high seven saves in the defeat. The Longhorns have earned the No.3 seed in the Big 12 Championship. The Longhorns recorded their highest finish in the Big 12 since 2007.

Texas will play Oklahoma State in the Big 12 quarterfinals at 2 p.m. Wednesday Nov. 6
