Football

The Texas Longhorn Football team defeated the Kansas State Wildcats 31-21 on Saturday at Darrell K. Royal Texas Memorial Stadium and ended its five game losing streak in the series.

Texas running back Johnathan Gray had a career game with 141 yards rushing and two touchdowns and proved to be the spark the Texas offense needed in the absence of several key players due to injury.

Starting quarterback David Ash did not play in the second half of the football game after suffering another head injury (he previously missed the Ole Miss game due to concussion-like symptoms).

Linebacker Jordan Hicks was carted off the field in the third quarter and suffered a left ankle injury. Hicks will undergo surgery and miss the rest of the season with a ruptured right Achilles.

Linebacker Steve Edmond was ejected from the Kansas State game due to the targeting rule. Edmond will also miss the first half of the Iowa State game in Ames.

Volleyball

The No. 6 Texas Longhorn Volleyball team defeated No. 12 Nebraska 3-2 in five sets (20-25, 25-19, 27-25, 21-25, 15-12).

Senior Bailey Webster set season-highs in kills (21) and points (23.5).

Sarah Palmer set a season-high with 24 digs.

Hannah Allison finished with her third double-double of the season.

The Longhorns recorded improved to 6-2 with their win over Nebraska.

Soccer

The Texas Women's Soccer team defeated UTSA 3-0 on Sunday night and Texas State 3-0 on Friday.

In their game against UTSA, Brooke Gilbert's first-half goal in the 32nd minute gave the Longhorns the advantage heading into halftime. Gilbert scored on a tap-in after Sharis Lachappelle crossed it in from a corner kick. Lachappelle was credited with the assist.

Chantale Campbell increased the Longhorn's lead to 2-0  in the second half off a rebound in the box in the 54th minute. Kelsey Shimmick hit a low shot from the left inside the box, that UTSA goalkeeper Bubba Makela was unable to collect. The rebound fell to Campbell who put it away from just outside the six-yard box.

Kelsey Shimmick scored a spectacular goal in the 60th minute that was almost identical to her goal on Friday night against Texas State. Shimmick sent a powerful, driven shot from the left, just outside the box that found the top corner and increased the Longhorn's lead to 3-0.

The Longhorns open up Big 12 Conference play next week against TCU. The game will be televised on the Longhorn Network at 7 p.m.
