The Horns Illustrated Week in Review covers all the University of Texas sporting events that took place this past week

 

Did you miss anything ‎Texas Longhorns related from the past 7 days? Don't worry, we will bring you up to speed.

 

Football 

Twelve days remain until the kickoff of the 2014 Texas Longhorn football season opener against North Texas. Kickoff is scheduled for August 30, at 7 p.m. in Darrell K. Royal Texas Memorial Stadium.

Texas Head Football Coach Charlie Strong participates in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge after Saturday's practice. Strong challenged former Texas players Vince Young, Ricky Williams, and Kasey Studdard to take on the Ice Bucket Challenge.

 

Volleyball

The University of Texas Volleyball team is set for their 2014 Orange-White Scrimmage on Saturday, August 23 at Gregory Gym. The scrimmage is free for all fans and gives them a chance to see the team, who is ranked No. 2 in the nation in the AVCA Coaches Top 25 preseason poll, in action for the first time. The scrimmage is set to start at 11 a.m.

Following the scrimmage, the Texas players will be available for an autograph session on the court at approximately 1 p.m.

Texas Volleyball is also set to host a free youth volleyball clinic from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Register for the camp through the Texas Volleyball office in advance, as spaces are limited.

 

Swimming/Diving

On Saturday and Sunday, Texas divers Murphy Bromberg, Emma Ivory-Ganja, and Corey Bowersox all claimed national titles at the 2014 AT&T National Diving Championships in Knoxville, Tenn.

Bromberg won her first national title on Saturday after winning the individual platform event, and then returned on Sunday to team up with Ivory-Ganja to win the women's platform synchronized diving event.

Bowersox won his national title on Sunday when he teamed up with former Miami diver Zachary Nees to claim the win in the men's three-meter synchronized event.

 

Women's Soccer

The University of Texas Women's Soccer team came away with a 7-0 victory over Incarnate World in an exhibition game at Mike A. Myers Stadium on Friday night.

The Longhorns dominated in every aspect of the game as they dominated in possession and enjoyed a 37 to 1 shot advantage. Sophomore defender Isabelle Kerr opened the scoring for the Longhorns in the 12th minute. Two minutes later Sharis Lachappelle scored a header off a cross to make it 2-0. Freshman forward Olivia Brook scored a brace for the Longhorns in her collegiate debut. Quinn Zulkowski, Jasmine Hart, and Sydney Shutter also added their names to the score sheet to make it 7-0 after 71 minutes.

Junior goalkeeper Abby Smith played the first half for Texas in goal, while senior Ava Vogel came on in the second half and kept the clean sheet for Texas for the remaining 45 minutes.

Texas' season opener is on Friday, August 22 against Arizona State in Hawaii at noon central.
