LAWRENCE, Kansas — Guard Matt Coleman scored a game-high 20 points and forward Jericho Sims added 17, but no other Longhorn scored more than 6 and the Texas men’s basketball team wilted late, falling, 69-58, at No. 3 Kansas.

The victory improved KU’s record to 19-3 overall and 8-1 in games against Big 12 opponents, while the Longhorns dropped to 14-8 overall and dipped below the .500 mark in conference games, at 4-5.

Udoka Azubuike scored a team-high 17 points and and Devon Dotson added 16 for the Jayhawks.

The Longhorns[s2If current_user_can(access_s2member_level2)] enjoyed a 33-31 lead at halftime before Kansas rallied and took the lead for good in the second half.

Had the Longhorns been more accurate from three-point range, they might have had a chance, but the Jayhawks could share the same complaint. Each team hit just 16.7 percent of its shots from behind the three-point line: Texas shot 4-for-24 from long range, while the Longhorns hit only a pair of their 12 attempts.

Sims shot brilliantly, going 8-for-9 from the floor. But Coleman was the only other Longhorn to hit even 50 percent of his field goals, going 8-for-17. But most of the other Longhorns were off-target. Andrew Jones was the only other UT player to connect on more than a third of his shots from the floor, sinking 2 of 5 shots, as the rest of UT connected on just 7 of 35 shots.

The Longhorns have little time to dwell on Monday’s loss, because they’ll meet Texas Tech at 3 p.m. Saturday in a game that will be broadcast on ESPN2.
