AUSTIN, Texas — After a weekend sweep of what was considered perhaps the top team in the nation, the Texas baseball team might make a proclamation familiar to the Sugar Bowl-winning football squad.
Though the Longhorns hardball squad probably wouldn’t say it, with a complete sweep of No. 2 LSU over the weekend, the Texas baseball team seems to be, as they say, back.

To top off the weekend, Texas (10-3) trailed heading to the ninth inning of Sunday’s game. Then, the Longhorns put up three runs in the bottom of the ninth, with the finishing touch coming by way of an Austin Todd RBI single to give the home team a 7-6 win.

Texas most certainly will rise from its No. 22 spot and now warrants attention from every team across the country.
Down by two, the ninth started with Michael McCann being hit by a pitch and Masen Hibbeler delivering a follow-up single to put two on with no outs.
After a sacrifice bunt, Duke Ellis eked his way on with an infield single to make the score 6-5. Eric Kennedy tied it up on a fielder’s choice, paving the way for Todd, who leads Texas with 17 RBIs, to knock in the winning run and send the Forty Acres into a frenzy. Todd also had a two-run homer in the win.
Now the lively Longhorns host UT-RGV on Tuesday at 6:30, then play at Stanford March 7-10.
