The American record holder for women’s shot put, and former Longhorn, Michelle Carter, advanced to the shot put finals Sunday.

Carter posted the second best mark of the qualifying round with a toss of 64 feet, 10 inches. The final takes place Monday and will include 12 finalists.

Other Longhorns in action include Alexandria Anderson who qualified for Monday’s 100-meter semifinals with a second-place finish in her heat. Anderson posted the sixth best time among the 45 participants.

Ashley Spencer, who is the defending 400-meter title holder at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, qualified for the semifinals, but was unable to advance further.

But Spencer isn’t done yet. She will take part in the 4x400 meter relay Friday.

Other Longhorns scheduled to compete this week includes Olympic silver-medalist Leo Manzano (1500m), current Longhorn Danielle Dowie (400m hurdles), Dylan Armstrong (men’s shot put), and Samyr Laine (men’s triple jump).
