Longhorns Football: Swoopes Earns Honorable Mention for National Player of the Week Award | Horns Illustrated

TYLER, Texas – Tyrone Swoopes has earned honorable mention for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week for the eighth week of the 2014 college football season.

In Saturday’s game against Iowa State, the sophomore quarterback went 24-for-36 for 321 passing yards in his sixth career start. In the Longhorns’ 48-45 win, Swoopes rushed for a career high 95 yards on 14 carries. His 416 yards of total offense is ninth-highest in Texas history.

The Whitewright, Texas, native had his second consecutive 300-yard passing game, making him the fifth quarterback in school history to do so.

Over the last two games, Swoopes has posted 800 total yards, which is the third-highest total in back-to-back games in school history, with only Colt McCoy and Vince Young topping the young quarterback.

On the season, Swoopes has totaled 1,389 passing yards, 210 rushing yards, and 3 touchdowns.
