Three Texas scores came as a direct result of Sanders’ mistakes. Two fumbles that gave the Longhorns the ball at the OSU 15 and 20, respectively, and an interception to begin a drive at the OSU 8 all but handed Texas 13 of its 20 first half points.
The Cowboys struck first on an 11-yard touchdown pass from Sanders to Wallace just 3:33 into the game. But Sanders’ fumble on a shaky handoff on Oklahoma State’s ensuing drive handed the Longhorns the ball as the OSU-15 and Texas cashed in the mistake on Keaontay Ingram’s 1-yard scoring run that tied the game at 7.
Sanders made amends on the Cowboys’ next possession, culminating a 62-yard march with back-to-back passes to Landon Wolf, first a 25-yarder and then a 5-yard touchdown strike to send Oklahoma State back in front at 14-7 with 1:36 left in the opening stanza.
Texas retied the game on Ehlinger’s 41-yard touchdown strike to Brennan Eagles early in the second quarter.
Sanders’ second huge mistake, an interception by the Longhorns’ Jalen Green on a pass that was late and behind the intended receiver, set the table for Cameron Dicker’s 20-yard field goal that handed Texas a 17-14 lead with 10:56 to play in the second quarter.
Sanders’ 5-yard touchdown pass to Hubbard after a 35-yard quarterback scamper allowed the Cowboys to retake the lead, at 21-17, halfway through the second quarter. Hale then drilled a 31-yard field goal with 1:47 to play before halftime.
