Longhorns silence doubters with overtime win over No. 6 Oklahoma State

After another fumble by Sanders when he was hit by Ossai, Dicker kicked a 41-yard field goal to bring Texas to within 24-20 at the break.

The Cowboys added to their lead with a 9-yard touchdown pass from Sanders to Wallace at the 8:09 mark of the third quarter.

But Texas immediately responded when D’Shawn Jamison returned the ensuing kickoff 100 yards for a score. The Longhorns went for two points but Ehlinger’s pass was incomplete, leaving the score at 31-26.

The Longhorns’ go-ahead drive, which started after a fumble by Oklahoma State’s LD Brown, was extended by a roughing-the-punter penalty om fourth-down and 22 against the Cowboys. Texas took advantage of the huge mistake, grinding out the last 10 plays of a 15-snap, 59-yard march for the lead.

“A lot of players might have checked it in by late in the game, and despite the way he struggled,” Herman said. “Sam made what I think was the best throw of his career there to Jake Smith, and I’ve seen him make some great throws over the past three-and-a-half years.”

Next up for the Longhorns is surprising West Virginia (4-2 overall, 3-2 in Big 12 play), which will come to Austin after a 37-10 home win Saturday over Kansas State.

“This helps build our confidence — it shows the work we have been doing leads to something,” Texas defensive tackle Ta’Quon Graham said. “We work to create those turnovers, and to be a position to make those plays lets us see that the work means something.”
