Longhorns Top Recruiting Class Impresses with Defensive Additions

Texas is a state rich in football talent, and this year, the Texas Longhorns used the talent-rich state to land a top-three recruiting class in the nation (source 247Sports) and the absolute best recruiting class in the Big 12.

Fox Sports Writes:

"Eight more players signed with Texas on Wednesday, bolstering what was already a strong class with the 19 players added during the early signing period in December. That includes three defensive linemen, a 250-pound high school quarterback expected to play defensive end and a really young tackle."

Tom Herman was noticeably excited when talking about the success of building a top recruiting class.

“Pretty historic day. Obviously a lot of the work was done by Dec. 21, but adding the eight guys that we added today really kind of solidifies the class, especially on the defensive front,” Herman said. “We made some big-time strides.”

247Sports.com ranked the Texas recruiting class as #3 in the nation, behind only Georgia and Ohio State. The Longhorns recruiting class is placed ahead of some impressive teams, including defending national champion Alabama.

The most obvious win for Texas was the addition of top defensive talent, signing defensive linemen Keondre Coburn, a 334-pounds four-star athlete, Daniel Carson from Independence, Missouri, and Moro Ojomo from Katy, Texas.

The Longhorns also landed Joseph Ossai, a four-star linebacker from Conroe, Texas, and 250-pound quarterback Mike Williams from Baton Rouge (Dunham), Louisiana, who is projected to play defensive end for Texas.

“There’s going to be a lot of competition on the defensive side," Herman said, "on both sides of the ball, really. But I think we all can see, whoa, that side of the ball just got real in a hurry.”

Herman is in the process of building a team that is sure to be a contender for the next few years. Some of these players won't see much playing time this season, however, there are also impact players among this recruiting class that can come in and make a difference right away.

I can't wait to see this team in action! Hook'em!
