The fans are unhappy and Mack Brown knows it. According to Chuck Carlton from the Dallas Morning News the Longhorns’ head coach said he would boo himself if he were in the stands at Darrell K. Royal[s2If current_user_can(access_s2member_level2)] —Texas Memorial Stadium watching UT falter.

The University of Texas in the first three games has failed to live up to expectations. A team with the most returning starters and most experienced QB in the conference should be playing better and Coach Brown knows it.

The ‘Horns rank No. 123 (out of 125) in the nation in rush defense, as they have allowed more than 308 rushing yards per game. Texas joins Massachusetts and New Mexico State as the only teams to have allowed more than 300 rushing yards per game this season. This is not great company.

Brown is in his 16th season in Austin and has won one national title and two Big 12 Conference titles during his tenure.

Texas is in the midst of a string of disappointing seasons, as it has had four or more losses in each of the last three years. Prior to the recent slump, Texas played for the 2010 national championship and lost to Alabama.

While records of a 5-7, 8-5 and 9-4 would be outstanding for some teams and at least acceptable for many more, Texas is rightfully held to a higher standard.

While Coach Brown might be on the hottest of hot seats, we are still squarely behind this Texas team. I personally believe that they will turn it around. In the last game against Ole Miss, it was the inability to convert on 3rd down that did them in. I know, I know the defense wasn’t great, but that is because they were on the field a lot in the 2nd half. This is a different team with David Ash at QB and I expect to see an elevation in their performance as they enter conference play.
