Men’s basketball falls to No. 14 in AP poll
AUSTIN, Texas — After a week in which the Texas men’s basketball team had one game postponed and then lost at home to West Virginia, the Longhorns fell to No. 14 in the Associated Press poll released Monday.
The 13-6 Horns, who were ranked as high as No. 4 in the AP poll released Jan. 11, were bypassed in the poll by WVU (15-6), which jumped to No. 10 in this week’s poll, as well as Florida State (13-3), which climbed to No. 11, and 16-5 Creighton, which now sits at No. 13 in the opinions of the AP voters.
Texas is one of six programs in this week’s AP top 25. Baylor remains the class of the conference, locked at No. 2 with its unblemished 17-0 record. Also in this week’s poll are No. 7 Oklahoma (14-5), No. 10 WVU, No. 17 Kansas (17-7). No. 18 Texas Tech.
Sitting just outside the top 25 are Oklahoma State, which is tops among the “others receiving votes” programs; OSU received 92 votes.
The two final games on UT’s regular-season schedule are against ranked teams: the Longhorns host the Jayhawks at 8 p.m. Tuesday in a game that can be seen on ESPN, and then host the Red Raiders at 11 a.m. Saturday in a game that will be broadcast on CBS.
