CARROLLTON, Texas — Junior Cole Hammer shot a three-over-par three-round total of 219 to tie for seventh place, leading the Texas men’s golf team to a fifth-place finish in the Maridoe Collegiate Invitational at the Maridoe Golf Club. The Longhorns finished with a 26-over-par three-round score of 890 in the field that included 12 top men’s teams in a 54-hole stroke-play format.
Juniors Parker Coody and Cole Hammer were Texas’ top individual finishers this week, each registering top-15 finishes. Hammer tied for seventh after shooting a 1-over 73 to finish 3-over for the tournament, while Coody tied for 13th at 6-over par.
Texas teammate Parker Coody fired a six-over-par 222 to tie for 13th place. Travis Vick shot a nine-over 225 to tie for 26th place, Hunter Ostrom finished at 10-over 226 and Pierceson Coody tied for 45th place when he carded a 16-over 232. Christoffer Bring, competing as an individual, tied Vick at nine-over 225.
Hammer’s 71 in the first round was the only round by a Longhorn that finished below par. Parker Coody finished his second round and Ostrom finished his third at even-par 72.
Oklahoma State won the event, shooting 16-over-par 880 through the three rounds, three shots better than runner-up Pepperdine. The Longhorns just missed a higher spot in the team rankings, falling one stroke behind fourth-place Baylor (889) and a pair of strokes shy of the third-place Oklahoma Sooners (888).
The Longhorns will tee it up again next Monday through Wednesday, Oct. 26-28, in the East Lake Cup at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. All three days of the competition will be carried live on the Golf Channel, and live results can be found throughout the tournament on Golfstat.com.
