
AUSTIN, Texas — In an epic final Texas fight, No. 10 Nebraska ends No. 2 Texas 2021 storied season with Nebraska winning the NCAA Regional Finals 3-1. Texas ends their season 27-2 after reaching their 15th Regional Final in the last 16 seasons.
Texas Longhorns fans made history when they showed up to support Longhorns volleyball, setting an all-time attendance record of 5,080 at Gregory Gym.
This was a real Texas fight with Nebraska barely winning the first two and fourth sets (25-19, 25-23, 23-25, 25-21). Coach Elliott congratulated Nebraska on the win and said, “they clearly won the serve and pass game. We had 23 errors between the serve and pass and they had 14 and pretty much our whole offense was because of our passing we had to live and die by Logan and Skylar and so it was really difficult tonight to get any kind of rhythm.”
Logan Eggleston and Skylar Fields each had 20 kills. Playing in her last collegiate volleyball game, senior 6’4” middle blocker from Kendleton, Texas, Brionne Butler stopped Nebraska with eight blocks, of the teams 13 total, giving her 115 on the season and 479 blocks in her career.
Senior Sydney Petersen of Iowa also saying goodbye at Gregory contributing four service aces and six digs on the night. Petersen finishes here career with 392 sets played, 82 service aces, 1027 digs, and 84 points.
Jhenna Gabriel had 24 assists, six digs, and two AMAZING blocks, and Saige Ka’aha’aina-Torres had 13 assists and two digs.
Special Message to Texas Longhorns Fans
In the post-match press conference Coach Elliott, Skylar Fields, and Logan Eggleston were understandably emotional about the loss after the stellar season they had. We asked all three what would they say to the fans who came out and support Texas Volleyball the way they did.
