No. 22 Texas Baseball clobbers Kansas, 12-4 in game one
AUSTIN, Texas - Game one of the final three games in the regular season, No. 22 Texas Baseball hosts Kansas.

No. 22 Texas Baseball clobbers Kansas 12-4 to win game one of the final three game series of the regular season. Texas bats were on fire after Mitchell Daly hit a grand slam home run in the bottom of the 4, Ivan Melendez hit his 27th home run of the season to remain the NCAA home run leader. Official attendance was 6,266 fans.
Kansas scored first in the top of third with a single from Dylan Ditzernberger that scored Zac Cox. Texas responded in the bottom of the third with four runs after Austin Todd singled to left scoring Douglas Hodo III who doubled. Silas Ardoin hit a double on a monster shot off the wall in right center that scored Murphy Stehly and Ivan Melendez. Mitchell Daly singled up the middle scoring Silas Ardoin.
Texas scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth. Of the 6,266 fans in attendance, a good many had their phone focused on Ivan Melendez when he came to the plate hoping to catch his next and 27th home run. Melendez hit a towering shot off the wall in center field.
Still in the fourth, Ardoin singles, Skylar Messinger gets hit by a pitch and Dylan Campbell singled to the shortstop making it bases loaded for Texas. Mitchell Daly comes to the plate, hits the first pitch foul, next pitch was a ball, then he swings at the third pitch and sends it over left field to clear the bases and give him a {{{{GRAND SLAM HOME RUN}}}}. Texas goes up 11-2.
Kansas scored two more runs in the top of the sixth inning on a home run by Nolan Metcalf that scored Maui Ahuna.
Douglas Hodo III sent a pitch of the left field wall for his eighth home run of the season.
Mitchell Daly goes 3-5 with five RBI, Douglas Hodo III went 3-5, one home run and a double and walk.
Pete Hansen gets the win after pitching six innings, throwing 96 pitches (64 strikes) to 25 batters and striking out five. Travis Sthele faced four batters and struck out one, Tristan Stevens faces two batters and struck them both out, Jared Southard faced three batters striking out one. Aaron Nixon started on the mound in the top of the ninth, faced four batters, struck out two that ended the game.
In all, Texas pitchers threw 151 pitches (94 strikes) to 38 batters, struck out 11, gave up eight hits and four runs.
Texas Baseball hosts Kansas for game two at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on May 20 (FRI) at 6:30 p.m.
While in the press box, we surveyed fans to see if they were sporting any Texas Baseball gear and were they were. Many fans were right in front of us literally. One fan as far as Washington, just outside of Seattle, another in Baton Rogue, LA.
