playing for the Longhorns and admitted there’s some stress that comes with play- ing for a college program that has failed to meet the fans’ high expectations.

So, how can a program that routinely ranks among the nation’s best in recruiting start winning? “Physically, we have to get better,” Okafor said. “Physically — on the field. We have to dominate.” As long as Mack Brown and Major Applewhite promote a quick and explosive offense, the defense needs to embrace a more physically dominant brand of football.

This starts with the pro- gram’s culture, which needs a slight adjustment. No one is scared of playing Texas. Someone either on the staff or on the team needs to sell and embrace a nastier, meaner and ultimately more physical attitude. The defense has to start demoralizing its opponents. Some of that’s talent, but a lot of it comes from attitude.
