THE WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD team earned individual wins from Shanay Briscoe, Sara Sutherland and Morgan Snow on the final day of competition to seal a second-place finish at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships.
Kansas edged out the Longhorns with 158 points – the most scored by a women’s team at the outdoor meet since 2003. “We had several crucial … [s2If current_user_can(access_s2member_level2)]
individual contributions,” interim head coach Rose Brimmer said. “Unfortunately, when you’re facing a squad like Kansas, you need a team to stand toe-to-toe with them. We weren’t able to string together big performances from top to bottom to get the job done.”
Sutherland won the 1,500 meter in 4:22.87, picking up her first individual Big 12 title. Snow was next on the track for the Longhorns, crossing the finish line in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.00 — just 0.06 ahead of Texas Tech’s Katie Grimes. She also earned her first individual conference title. Briscoe later claimed her third outdoor high jump title with a winning clearance of 5-10 inches (1.78 meters).
Briscoe is the first to earn three-consecutive outdoor conference titles since Erin Aldrich (1998-00). Briscoe has won five of the last six conference high jump events, claiming Big 12 Indoor victories in 2011 and February of this year. The Longhorns posted six second-place finishes, two of which came in the 4×100-meter and 4×400-meter relays.
