Questions and notes before Texas versus Kansas at DKR

AUSTIN, Texas — There is simply no better place to be than DKR for a Texas football game. It is Texas. Here are a couple questions, and notes on the game.

What happens at running back?

Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson are game-time decisions. If they can’t go, who will be running the ball for Texas and can they do it effectively? Alabama transfer Keilan Robinson is next in line on the depth chart and is certainly no slouch being behind Bijan Robinson and Johnson. Freshman Jonthon Brooks — who was starting at Hallettsville High this time a year ago — is next in line behind Keilan Robinson. This will be something to watch, but if quarterback struggles hurt Texas, that may put a lot of pressure on the third-string running back.

What happens at quarterback and with the passing game?

Sarkisian still hadn’t announced a starter at the time of this writing, but does it matter? Whomever starts better perform, or he will be yanked quickly. They’ll also be without Josh Moore as a target, who left the program earlier in the week and makes a receiving corps that has already lost Jordan Whittington and Troy Omeire to injury even thinner.

What’s the bottom line on this game?

It is a good time to face Kansas, but the Jayhawks aren’t just going to come out and roll over. Sure, Kansas isn’t good, but they still have Division I athletes. The Longhorns need to avert disaster, win the game and start preparing for West Virginia. Things could be ripe for a KU upset with all of Texas’ injuries, but the Longhorns still have way too much talent to allow that to happen.

Horns Illustrated predication: Texas: 42, KU: 10

Notes:

  • Keilan Robinson may get a lot of carries against KU
  • Kelvontay Dixon makes a start at WR
  • Junior Angilau and the OL need to have a good game
  • B.J. Foster and the Texas defense could have a big game
  • Moro Ojomo will be a leader on the DL
  • DL coach Bo Davis should have his players motivated
  • Xavier Worthy is the No. 1 target for Texas QBs
  • Texas should get back on the winning track versus KU
